Privacy policy
Tapesnag has no accounts and keeps nothing that says who you are. This page lists everything the website and the Android app send, what we keep, and for how long.
In short
- No sign-up, no names, no email addresses, no device IDs.
- Links you paste on the website reach our server only while your file is made, and the file is deleted after 30 minutes.
- The app reads links on your phone. Your searches, history and downloads stay on your phone.
- The app sends us only its version number: when it opens for the first time, and once a day.
- The website shows ads (Google, Adsterra), which use cookies, and some buttons open a sponsor's page. The app has no ads and no trackers.
- We don't sell or share data with anyone.
The website
Links you paste. To make your file, our server opens the link, reads which qualities the site offers and downloads the one you pick. The link and the job are kept in the server's memory while that runs, never in a database. Finished files are deleted after 30 minutes. The site you're downloading from sees our server, not you.
Your IP address. Like every website, our server sees the address your request comes from. It uses it for a minute or so, in memory, to stop one network from sending too many requests. It isn't written down: there are no visit logs.
Error logs. When a link fails, the server notes what went wrong so we can fix it. That note can include the link, but nothing about who sent it.
On your device. Your browser remembers your light or dark theme. Tapesnag itself sets no cookies.
Ads on the website
The website is paid for by Google AdSense ads. Google and its partners use cookies to show ads, and may use them to choose ads based on your visits to this and other websites. Google's advertising policy explains how. You can turn personalized ads off in Google's ad settings. We don't see who you are or what you click.
The website also shows banner ads from Adsterra. Some buttons (unlocking a high-quality download, Get the app, Download for Android) open a sponsor's page from Adsterra or Monetag in a new tab. Those pages are run by the ad networks, which may use cookies and see your IP address there; their own privacy policies apply. Monetag's service worker file is on the site, but it doesn't run unless a Monetag ad starts it.
The Android app
Links and searches. The app reads links, searches YouTube and plays videos on your phone, connecting straight to YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, X and Pinterest, as their own apps would. Those companies see your connection as they do when you use them, and their privacy policies apply. Nothing you search, watch or download is sent to us.
What the app sends to us. Only three things, to tapesnag.com:
- A check for app settings and updates, with the app's version number.
- One anonymous count the first time the app opens, and one on each day it's used. Each carries only the version number, so we know how many copies are in use. No device ID, nothing about you.
- The update file, when you tap Download update.
Kept on your phone only. Your downloads (in Tapesnag, and copies in your gallery or music), your recent searches and the videos you played in Explore (clear them in Settings), and your settings.
Instagram and Facebook sign-in. If you sign in to download stories, you do it on Instagram's or Facebook's own page inside the app. Your password goes to them, never to us, and the sign-in stays on your phone. Settings → Sign out removes it.
Permissions. The app asks only for what it uses:
- Internet and network state: to download, and to wait for Wi-Fi if you turn on Wi-Fi only.
- Photos, videos and music access: to save your downloads to your gallery and music app.
- Notifications, a foreground service and keeping the phone awake: so downloads continue in the background and tell you when they finish.
- Vibration: a short buzz when a download finishes.
It doesn't ask for your contacts, location, camera, microphone or messages.
Who else sees data
Nobody, apart from what's described above: the sites you download from, and the website's ad networks (Google, Adsterra, Monetag). Our server is rented from OVHcloud, which runs the machine but doesn't look at what's on it. We don't sell data, and we have none to sell.
Your choices
Because we keep nothing tied to you, there's nothing of yours on our side to look up or delete. On your phone you can clear Explore's history in Settings, sign out of Instagram and Facebook, delete downloads, or uninstall the app, which removes everything it kept.
Children
Tapesnag isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect anything from them.
Changes
When Tapesnag starts collecting something new, this page changes first, and the date at the top moves. Questions: support@tapesnag.com.
Download only videos you own or have permission to save, and respect each site's terms.
